That’s How Our Story Began

Between year 1925 and 1931, Mr. Ohannes Zeitlian worked(that was titled later to “Occasion” in Khoderbek a neighborhood of his town Anjar) for a short period in the kitchen of the French Catholic School in Beirut, then he moved to the city of Tripoli, where he worked as Chef in the kitchen of the French navy forces, then and after a short period he worked as Head Chef in Hotel & Casino of Saoufar in Mount Lebanon.

In year 1931, a European company specialized in engineering oil operations began working in Lebanon, and began asking for staff including a kitchen staff specialized in food preparation, Mr. Zeitlian was chosen to work as head chef in its kitchen that serves food for a crew of French, British and Germans in addition to these duties he supervised with his British counterpart on a machine for hatching chicken eggs, that Zeitlian brought it to Anjar later.

In year 1950 and as the father came his junior “ Boghos Zeitlian”, since his childhood he began working on a popcorn cart in Bhamdoun Area, that cart was the beginning of his successful work where he entered in year 1955 the first television device to Anjar and exploited it for entertainment and amusement for the sons of the town.

Year 1960 is the year where the union of Zeitlian Brothers result the success of their project, where they opened a supermarket and a bakery in the same time.

In year 1970 and after the departure of Boghos Zeitlian brothers to the United States of America taking their business with them, “Boghos” continued his path alone to fulfill his dreams. In the same year and with the help of his wife “Vartoug” and his mother in law “Baydzar” and with very limited kitchen equipment and limited staff “Boghos” opened a modest cafeteria that constituted an excellent start of the so-called Shams Restaurant.

In year 1985 and after ten years of dedicated work, Boghos made the opening of Shams Restaurant that was a dream since childhood coming true because of the patience and hope.

With confident steps that show the after sight of its owner, Boghos continued the path, in 1995, and after years of fame and success at the level of Anjar and nearby towns, the commercial strategy of Mr. Boghos allowed him to purchase some properties nearby his restaurant, what enabled him to expand his business.

Years where the best teacher for Boghos and his family which became an integral part of the Shams Restaurant thereby their experience increased and they were involved more and more in their work, what attracted clients from all around Lebanon and the world, to ensure that all customers are welcomed and entertained. Zeitlian family opened a new hall equipped with the modern technology, meeting the customers’ demands for weddings and special events, enabling Shams restaurant to receive more than 2100 customer at a time till this day and the journey continues…
